Case study blocked gully

Initial Issue

We received a call from a customer in Ware reporting a blocked drain serving the kitchen sink. The issue was causing the dishwasher to back up into the sink before eventually overflowing externally onto the patio.

Investigation

On arrival, we found the external gully to be overflowing and not draining. We lifted the nearby inspection chamber to assess the condition of the pipework and confirm the location of the blockage.

Work Carried Out

Using handheld drainage equipment, we worked from the gully through towards the chamber and dislodged a large solid buildup of fat, grease, and debris.

·         Blockage pushed through into the chamber

·         Large grease mass manually removed

·         Line worked through repeatedly to ensure full clearance

We then ran the kitchen sink continuously for approximately 15 minutes while continuing to work the line to confirm full clearance between the gully and chamber.

Results

·         Full flow restored with no further backing up or overflow

·         All pipework confirmed clear

·         System tested under running conditions

Outcome

The drainage system was successfully restored to full working order. We rinsed down, cleaned, and disinfected the affected patio area, leaving the site safe and tidy. Another happy customer in Ware.

Recommendation

·         Avoid disposing of fats, oils, and grease down the sink

·         Consider periodic maintenance if the issue reoccurs
